MIchael VAN AART LLB
Michael has extensive experience in providing commercial and property advice. Dealing regularly with clients on acquisitions, divestments and construction projects, he puts strong emphasis on providing solutions to benefit his clients and add value.
Michael also has acted for some of New Zealand's largest financial institutions in respect of their Finance and Recovery teams.
As a result of having negotiated numerous leases for international retailers with major landlord's in Australia and New Zealand Michael has significant experience in shopping mall leases.

TONY SYCAMORE LLB / BCom
Tony is the co-founder of the firm and specialises in commercial and business law.
Tony has been practising since 1993 and provides strategic legal advice to a number of clients. Tony acts on a wide range of commercial matters and has extensive experience in corporate law involving structuring, finance, joint ventures and shareholders agreements and the issue of securities through public and private placements.
Tony is also experienced in all aspects of property law and works with the firms private high net worth clients in relation to trust and estate planning structures. Tony advises a number of entities on governance, corporate and management matters and is a trusted advisor to a significant number of high net worth individuals and families advising on family structuring, inter-generational wealth transfer and related issues. Advice is based on significant governance experience across a wide range of both voluntary and commercial entities and currently sits on the Board of the Otago Foundation Trust Board, Otago Rescue Helicopter, John McGlashan College, Columba College and the New Zealand Law Society Standards Committee.
Tony’s approach is focused on understanding the clients commercial goals and assisting clients to achieve these goals through sound commercial legal advice.
HENRY HAMBLETON LLB / BCom
Henry joined Van Aart Sycamore Lawyers in 2011 after working at an investment firm in Dunedin and another Dunaedin based law firm. He has experience in commercial property transactions, asset and share acquisitions and divestments, corporate structuring, amalgamations, trusts, estate planning and residential conveyancing.
Henry’s belief is that a sound understanding of the underlying commercial transaction is critical in delivering concise, accurate and relevant legal advice.
Hamish mander LLB / Ba
Hamish advises clients on a range of commercial and property legal matters, including in relation to business and land transactions, shareholder and joint venture arrangements, franchising, construction, IT, finance and securities, agribusiness and succession planning.
Hamish’s clients come from various backgrounds and sectors. They include closely held businesses, property investors, corporates and farming families.
Hamish is committed to providing timely and practical legal solutions to his clients.

Claire has recently joined Van Aart Sycamore after studying Law and Arts at the University of Canterbury. She enjoys the challenge of the commercial arena and takes great satisfaction in helping clients achieve their goals as well as building strong relationships.
THOMAS HUTCHISON LLB
Thomas has recently returned from Taiwan where he taught English and gained an appreciation of Chinese culture and language. Thomas is originally from Dunedin and obtained his law degree from Victoria University in Wellington. He is looking forward to providing pragmatic advice to the clients of Van Aart Sycamore.
